Reykjavík’s Midnight Sun Run: Celebrating nature and sport

What an unforgettable night! The Suzuki Midnight Sun Run in Reykjavík has just wrapped up, and thousands of runners experienced something truly extraordinary. Under the shimmering glow of the midnight sun, participants took on the scenic route—covering distances of a half marathon, 10K, and 5K—each step bathed in the surreal light of the endless summer twilight.

The Suzuki Midnight Sun Run is organised by Reykjavík Sports Association (ÍBR), a union of sports clubs in Reykjavík. The union also hosts four other major events throughout the year, including Íslandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon in August, Laugavegur Ultra Marathon in July, Reykjavík International Games in January, and the Northern Lights Run in February. These events showcase Iceland’s vibrant sports culture and bring together thousands of participants from around the world.

Corsa is proud to be the official event management platform for the Suzuki Midnight Sun Run and all other events, helping to streamline registration, timing, and event operations to ensure a seamless experience for all participants and for ÍBR.

The course, carefully measured and certified, wound through Reykjavík’s beautiful streets and pathways, offering runners breathtaking views of the surrounding nature and cityscape. The air was filled with excitement and celebration as everyone embraced the unique magic of running during the midnight sun—where time seems to stand still and the sky remains a dreamy canvas of pinks and oranges long after sunset.

The energy was contagious. Runners of all ages and abilities pushed themselves to the limit, sharing this once-in-a-lifetime experience in a night that felt more like a fairy tale than a race. Festive cheers echoed through the streets, and the vibrant atmosphere made every stride feel like a joyful dance under the endless summer sky.

Runner Andrea Kolbeinsdóttir set a new Iceland record in the 5K at the Midnight Sun Run Suzuki, finishing in 16:18 minutes and surpassing her previous best by nine seconds.

As the night drew to a close, everyone gathered at Laugardalslaug, Reykjavík’s famous swimming and sports complex. Iceland’s largest pool was the perfect sanctuary—offering warm waters to relax tired muscles and a lively poolside atmosphere to celebrate the incredible achievement. Runners and spectators alike dressed in smiles, sharing stories of the magical run and soaking in the unforgettable moments from this extraordinary event.

Thanks to all who joined us—athletes, volunteers, supporters—your energy and enthusiasm brought this event to life. Until next year, when we’ll once again chase the sunset and celebrate the summer solstice in the land of fire and ice. Keep that spirit alive and remember: under the midnight sun, anything is possible.
